Across the expanse of the horizon,

black as the depths of our hate,

without the hope of a star's shimmer,

across the southern and northern hemispheres

Her ascent was a premonition,

the watermark left sodden,

bringing light upon our fervour,

the spectre of our wars.

A blood moon ascendant

and behind us the sun,

a reflection of the sin

we have brought into being,

yet opportunity embodied,

perhaps a turn in the wheel.

What I saw in this moon

were here seas subsiding,

where dust alone can gather

in the dusky craters of her sorrow.

Her holy fire was aflame,

like the blaze of our cawardice,

our hatred of the forests that left

wounded the lungs of the world.

A blood moon ascendant

and behind us the sun,

a reflection of the sin

we have brought into being,

a warning left unheeded

in the blackening of night.
