Hip Hop became a voice for the backbone of the Black bone. Black voice rejoice for Hip Hop in the Black tones.
From ghetto to ghetto, housing project to project. Hip Hop is the Black soul’s affectionate object.
When the system came to strip us of choice you came and we rejoiced because you gave of us voice.
You always captured the essence of the time. House parties or crime encapsulated in rhyme.
You made these young Black boys and girls strong as boulders. We’ll carry you on our shoulders as we fight as soldiers.
Hip Hop came in the city and swept the land of the inner city, turning it into a winner city.
There’d be no me without you. There is no “we” without you. I’m better because you are here Hip Hop I would never doubt you.
I’ll never change or flip flop. I’ll keep going until I reach the tip top of the mountain called Hip Hop.
