Bittersweet

Passing by high school, orange-brown bricks boasting of new stories,

walls once familiar to me,

an old friend

that still remains firmly, where I left it to be

I remember,

bittersweet memories,

hearing the laughter of friends echoing in the long hallways

teachers yelling whenever mischief took over us,

watching classmates run ,

panting, struggling to breathe,

hot summer day, June

sitting on the cold bleachers, under the shade of the tree

talking, laughing,

impatiently waiting to graduate, planning the unknown ,

now realizing how naïve we were,

as the sun shined, and a cool breeze blew,

watching the field get mowed,

buzzzzzzzz, buzzzzzzz, buzzzzzzz,

Math, Science, Gym all attack,

another day, another battle,

feeling the rope hanging from the ceiling in my small hands,

violently leaving blisters as I tightened my grip,

inhaling sweat and perfume in gym class,

smelling pizza in the cafeteria,

tasting the cold chocolate milk,

"Congratulations", the words of a final goodbye,

the end of a chapter,
