„Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day”
It feels again like it's the first time you text me for my birthday
Because for a decade you were right next to me on my birthday
You were always the first person to kiss me on my birthday
You would be the person I would be celebrating with on my birthday
But not anymore.
Now it’s a message on my phone’s screen
9 words, 38 letters and an exclamation mark on my phone`s screen
And I want to scream at my phone’s screen:
How could someone become a stranger who was my family?
How could I lose who I thought was a part of me?
I feel like I’m falling apart
I feel like it was yesterday that we parted
But then I remember that it was many years ago that we were a we
That we both have new wes that we are part of now
And when my new you asks if everything is okay
I stop staring at that message on my phone
That message from the past
And I type “Thank you”
And wonder if you will count the letters, too.
