"Have a happy birthday!" I say to a friend who's forgotten me

Made with love but finished with hate is the fate of every memory.

"Make a wish!" They chant and cheer as time flips the bird.

In whichever world where my voice is heard, where joy comes from an inside place,

I'll say that I don't know what to wish for, and that time has gone by so fast. I'll be forced to reckon with her every punch,

But at the very least, I'll be alright.

At least my cheeks are rosy with icing

And it's a day for birthday cake.

~

Author's note: not my birthday; just thinking.
