Big Blue Heart

(what it's like inside)

I have a big blue heart

with a single vein of gold

and it still pumps blood

through my soon dead veins

even though it’s half-way froze.

I like to think it weighs about thirteen hundred pounds

just like a big blue whale’s

so if you got inside my arteries

you probably could set sail.

Bask within its sunrooms

and stroke its velvet walls

and don’t forget to peruse the books,

there is surely time to read them all.

Rise dough within its kitchen

fill the halls with smells of baking bread

then sit at its round table

as no one ever is the head.

Although up close you’ll see my heart is busted

I’ve filled in all the cracks

gently stuffing them with moss and seeds and flowers the color of lilac.

It’s got staircases that lead nowhere and tunnels deep below,

It even has eight towers, all with butterfly shaped windows.

I have a big blue heart,

it glitters with mirrors and beads.

and although my heart has tenants

none were ever granted keys.
