Something stirs beneath the surface

Inside labyrinthine walls built thick with forgotten scars,

Left rotten and decayed in subtle putrefaction,

Every bit gnawing and scratching at its unwitting prison.

Not unlike the river, it flows and grows and bides its time to break the dam

Cutting and grinding at the stone, ravenous, unseen, unheard,

Evermore hidden beneath its placid smiling shell yearning only to break free.
