Beloved Moon,

do you ever get lonely

By Erin WheelerPublished 11 months ago • 1 min read

Beloved Moon,

There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask

I wonder

Do you ever get lonely up there

Gazing down

Peering

Sometimes bold sometimes shy

At our ridiculous antics

Your reliable features

Spying on innumerable lives

Your face recognizable

By every organism

Across all time

But always just outside the fray

Tell me

Do you ever get lonely

And how does it feel

To be a mover of entire oceans

Without ever knowing

That pull around your own ankles

Never building a castle with friends

Then watching it slowly crumble

By the force that is yours

Maybe you enjoy the solitude

Forever the onlooker

Not really a joiner anyway

Maybe you delight

In the quiet but essential part you play

On all this drama

Your enigmatic pull

Mysterious force

Your silver reflection

Lighting our nights

Can you feel our adoration

Do you hear

The exclamations we breath in reverence

To those we love best

“Come look. It’s the moon!”
