Belly of the Beast

Choices and Divine Will

By Tales by J.J.Published 2 years ago • 2 min read

In the depths, swallowed whole, in this dark, damp cave,

I float, in limbo, beneath the whale's towering wave.

Was this my fate, to be consumed, and here confined,

To question all my choices, and the God I’ve maligned?

Oh, what sin or misstep, did lead me to this plight?

For in this stomach’s gloom, there's no guiding light.

I ponder every action, every whispered prayer,

In the belly of this beast, shadows of despair.

Is there a purpose, in this dark abyss so vast?

Or am I merely lost, a relic of my past?

God, if you’re listening, why send me on this quest,

Only to end in darkness, with turmoil in my chest?

The taste of salt and brine, the echo of my cries,

Amidst the swirling tides, my hope slowly dies.

Is there a mercy, in this profound sea’s depth,

Or just a cruel joke, as I draw my final breath?

Each breath a struggle, each thought a painful thorn,

My faith is tested, as I await the mourn.

Was I but a pawn, in a cosmic game so grand?

Does divine wisdom have a master plan?

The walls around me, slick with mucus and slime,

A labyrinth of chambers, where digestion's prime.

The whale's stomach churns, a slow and rhythmic dance,

Peristalsis moves me, in this dark expanse.

The air is thick with the scent of decay,

A mix of krill and squid, in this watery bay.

The texture of the walls, rough and coarse,

Rubbing against my skin, with each gentle force.

The whale moves through the ocean, a gentle sway,

A gentle rocking motion, as it makes its way.

I feel the rise and fall, the ebb and flow,

A constant reminder, of life's ebb and flow.

Time stands still in this dark, confined space,

I wrestle with my faith, and the Creator’s grace.

Why this end, this trial, this test of my belief,

Does God derive pleasure from my grief?

Here I am, floating, in this cavern tight,

Reflecting on my journey, in the absence of light.

If there's a lesson, in this harrowing tale,

Let it be found, in the belly of the whale.
