We see them everywhere
in expensive shoes,
bleached hair lacquered
over airbrushed faces,
wearing ridiculous
upholstery prints,
curated civilized appearances
sipping overchilled
wine,
nibbling
charcuterie
belying the rabid demons
lurking under the surface
until the porcelain
cracks, claws
come out, curled
like talons tearing—
rending everything asunder,
vapid vindication
to perfect the
illusion
of perfection
until they spread
their legs,
freezing
everything.
