the night is yin and moonless and hot. restless pigeons
peck at the concrete and hating punctuation,
clouds bike the sky. a glimmer glows in the knot
tightening around the park inside the city,
choked by all the places where people find to live.
the best parts of ourselves break first so the bridge
a seed must cross reminds me of all the bullshit,
the fat on my stomach and hips like something ugly
surfacing. neglected and simmery, we rearrange
the same day differently, doomscroll until something
happens to august and it’s awful. a warm pink sky
sits down into the trees along the parkway
where they become the darkness they already were,
an ocean leaving its thinking to the moon.
