Because Friends Are Kites

Not all breakups are romantic.

I smile knowing we flew together for just a day,

But we were kites we were meant to fly away.

Fate yanked my hand left as destiny pulled you right.

The sun began to set as day turned into night.

I pushed and I pushed and I tried pushing back,

only to have the winds of time respond with a slap.

Amidst the fog you heard the breeze whisper and you turned away.

Why didn’t you reach for my hand or try to call out my name?

I looked at what lay forward

and turned back one last time.

You were running west towards your sunset-

so I ran east towards mine.

You should've looked back.

Everything is not what it seems.

West may be bright now

but the sun rises in the east.

Now I get it.

Now I know.

What’s mine will stay

What’s not will go

April showers bring bright flowers in May.

Darling we were kites,

we were born to fly away.
