Beautiful Ways to Go

lose yourself again

Art by Cory Anders

Foot pressed into the broken stone, heel then sole, black hem caught around ankles, toes spreading under cloth.

One hand opens beside the thigh, closes, opens again; white hair slides across one eye and rests against the mouth.

Chin lifts, throat exposed in blue light, breath held high behind parted lips and visible ribs.

Dust rises first, then tile, glass, roof slate, a bent spoon turning slowly beside the shoulder.

A crooked step into loose grit, ankle tilting, knee folding, dress pulling hard around the legs.

Both hands rise, palms outward, fingers spread, wet lashes still open under ash collecting at the lips.

The ground moves away; dress, hair, then both feet lift together into the turning debris.

Black cloth, white hair, open hands, the body thinning through distance, almost gone.

About the Creator

Ahmet Nazif Sati

The train arrives after midnight carrying soaked commuters and one screaming drunk philosopher. Somewhere at the edge of the observable universe, matter collapses into impossible density. Nobody looks up from their phones.
