Be Wary, Be Warned

He’s right behind you

He rides the airwaves to a height of extreme,

Fluttering over the enemy who’ve lost their way,

Corralling them into the valley of moss,

To end their destruction come what may.

**

The echoes of the bang and clash of swords and steel,

As he rushes in to destroy at will,

A beheading here, a slit throat over there,

He doesn’t take pride in the slaughter or kill.

**

Tears cascade in waterfalls upon his cheeks,

Horrified at the devastation and horrid mess,

But he attempts to harden his heart at the necessity,

Which brutally cripples him, he must confess.

**

Avenger of the innocent, he pines his brutality,

But standing tall is his obligation, when he’s at his best,

His duty is to remove the vermin from his world,

An encumbrance he abhors as he can attest.

**

He holds honour in his heart, love for the minorities,

He always promised he’d take a stand,

When he witnesses an injustice he’s quick to step in,

Hell bent on lending the downtrodden his helping hand.

**

Blessed are those that cross his path in kindness,

But for those who hold blackened hearts within their breast,

Be wary, be warned, be looking over your shoulder,

Because he’s gunning for you and he’ll rip your heart from your chest.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
