The first time I chose peace,
it felt like rebellion
like my great grandmother's fine China tea cup
filled with wine
perched precariously on the ledge of a windowsill
against a lavender twilight sky
a smirk curled around silent sips
as biceps buried fenceposts
and strung up long overdue barbed wire
boundaries curated with mirror tipped kindness
allowing daisies to grow
where their footprints left bruises.
