Back and Forth

Taken for granted

You control the tides

Back and forth and

Back and forth

Covering

Hide

All of the sand

The beach

The shore

The shells

The life

You control the tides

Push them in

And out

And out again

Further away

Until we say

Where is the water?

Where are the waves?

I’d like to go out

When you bring them in

Too far

Too close

Driving home

Closing in

We want them gone

We want to walk

Not swim

First Draft
