Baby Mine

A Poem

By Denise WhitePublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

It's something that nobody really understands unless they've been through it,

The pain both physically and emotionally is draining,

The death of a life that hasn't even been lived,

A life that would have become a counterpart of your own,

Left with love you were prepared to give but no longer know what I do with,

Suddenly your world turns to nothing but despair,

Every period to follow ignites a heartache you have never known,

The knowledge that you are empty where a woman should be full,

Everyday will be a battle with a sense of failure that will try to consume you,

How does a life you never knew leave you feeling so lost when they depart this world?

But that is life,

Life is cruel and unforgiving and always seems to take as it gives,

People will tell you that you can try again but how can you?

Why try again in case you fail again?

How do you carry on when you have lost so much?

You've missed the firsts,

The achievements,

The challenges and the tantrums,

You never got the chance to do the midnight shifts and the early mornings that followed,

How do you fix a heart that is so broken by something that barely existed,

But to you it existed more than any person you ever knew,

How do you contemplate trying again when all you want is what you lost?

I don't know if I can.
