Baa baa black witch

Did you find a place to hide?

I spoke to the priest; he wants you dead.

For crimes against mankind.

Baa baa black witch

I'd hoped you'd find me here.

The aromas of brewery and flickers of candles

Make me fall to my knees.

I beg you, spare my life -

I have many secrets to tell;

Yet now I realise in the darkness

My voice has fled for the hills.

I wait for the fire to spread;

The pyre ready for burning

Your soft chuckle is comforting

Despite everything that separates our journeys.

I finally get a glimpse behind the mask,

See the scars from the hunt and the chase.

You never really mentioned how they hurt you-

It was as though the pain was a disgrace.

Regardless, the secrets spill

And you seem amused

"Observant, are you?"

Too honeyed to let me realise it was a threat.

I was distracted by the simplicity of the craft;

The ease of merging the herbs

And the care you crush the olives with

But the darkest part of a witch's work

The one that blackens each corner of the soul

Is the taking of a life

That meant no harm at all.
