Azimuth

horizontal angle from a cardinal direction

i can see the early morning sun

track across the glass

of the city skyscrapers

from my cosy window seat

and if i keep still enough

i swear i can see it move

incrementally with each

passing second

from one window to the next

from a single pane of glass

to the whole side of a building

my photo has failed to capture

this simple magnificence

the longer i look

the more panes of glass

reflect the sun back to me

as it slowly arcs

onto the next and so on

in turn

like an optical slow motion morse code

a ceaseless journey

of light, of life

soon every reflective surface

will be kissed by sun

every surface touched

by a benign radiation

from the centre

of our solar system

the sun slowly drifts across the sky

oblivious to all but itself

casting itself angularly

upon every surface it can touch

lighting some shadows

shadowing some lights

it brings every morning

everyday

it flits upon each everything

ever so briefly

and then wanes

to beckon,

and

become the night
