Autumnal

Night stretches into elastic evenings

and memory foam mornings,

ragweed masquerading as roadside goldenrod

brings the itch, the tickle, the strings of kerchoos

and summer-soft silhouettes sharpen, lines unblur, crisp edges take shape

to change the season like a bedsheet,

threadbare summer stripped away.

Sleeping in pajamas again.

Deep, decadent color

splays across the sunbleached sky.

I crave pomegranates.
