Crisp, clear blue skies greet
Three hundred eager Aussies
Stretching, warming up.
*
Seven a.m. start
We’re off and running, jostling
Weaving in and out.
*
Speedy strides downhill
red cattle dog nips at heels
Guaranteed good time!
*
People all ages
Some injured, some fit, some not
Are moving… grooving.
*
Knee braces abound
Even a wheelchair.
*
Golden guide-dog leads
His intrepid human round
Undulating course.
*
Volunteers are thanked
Ambling walkers chat and joke
Crowd cheers finishers.
*
Just across the line
Watches and phones record times
Statistics compared.
*
Back, down the highway
A red fox flits between cars
Off… to who knows where.
*
Helicopter seeds
Silently spiral and spin
Autumn’s almost gone.
*
Inspired by another delightful Saturday morning, parkrun. Winter is waiting in the wings, a serious stumbling block to starting the weekend bright and early, exercising with hundreds of other crazies like-minded folk. Here’s hoping for a more impressive outcome this year! At least we don’t have snow… only frost and frigid gales. Time to toughen up! Number 119 parkrun, for me. Only another 31 until 150!
