At One With the Earth

For the Plants That Are Forgotten

At one with the Earth

What is it like to be at one with the earth beneath us?

To be a leaf sashaying in the summer breeze without any fuss?

Or maybe to be a petal of an aromatic flower?

To look to the sun and dirt for food and power?

I’d love to be a plant and feel the rain as it splattered down

To be on one's wrist or adorned in a crown

Perhaps even to be a seed that falls to the ground

To sway in the wind making a chorus, a sound

Chitter and chatter to other plants around me

Through the fungi of soil and odours secreted by a tree

What a dazzling network of communication through roots and air

To dance along threads as thin as hair

To be given as a lovely gift to those we love

To be placed at a grave of those up above

Being kept and looked after, maintained for pleasure and beauty

Or grown for survival, with flavours from savoury to fruity

To have such a uniqueness but also one of untold

To be planted and grown, looked after and sold

Holding a meaning, whether this be love, marriage or death

To survive on that of a humans breath

I’d love to be a plant for they hold such meaning

And come rain or shine, they are always here, beaming
