Aspire To Be

Meet yourself inside yourself, and merge the two entirely.

Honorable Mention in Somewhere Between Here and There Challenge

Gasping for air,

grasping my head,

hyperaware,

wish I was

decidedly kinder,

to the side of me

I always aspired to be.

But I barely recognize

What I’ve achieved.

I wish I could meet

Myself in the in-between.

The halfway point.

Have a heart to Heart,

A self to Self.

To tell that inner voice

how those insults felt.

And maybe she’ll listen,

and maybe she’d agree.

Maybe after everything we

could be collaborators

coexisting.

Build the future we wanted

when things hadn’t been divided,

before they became

decidedly meaner.

Maybe it’d affect my demeanor.

Maybe then I wouldn’t be gasping,

grasping,

trying to keep it all together.

I’d be free and collected,

simultaneously,

harmoniously.

Maybe that’s who I

aspire to be.
