Thoughts of home

Flat, dry, endless stretching landscape

Sharp bristling brush smelling of rain

Unreachable mountains

Unreachable water

Tall, green, plant reaching for the sky

skirt of many fingers reaching upward

Full of animal holes

Full of harsh needles

Dry, hot, sun piercing my skin

Burning metal and melted keepsakes

Bright blinding sky

Bright unforgiving sun

Greasy, fattening, plates of chili spice

Tortilla plates and meat alongside cheese

Foods of spicy sour candies

Foods of sweet powdery breads

Warm, reflective, river under a steel bridge

Old west prison hiding the rattlesnakes

In the sand are scorpions

In the sand are jackrabbits

River, fog, people from a time forgotten

Gourd songs, frybread, beaded necklaces

Quiet song cries

Quiet gambling dreams
