Arise

Underestimate Me, That'll Be Fun

By Laura RoodenburgPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

(Author's Note: I wrote this song about three years ago, when I was super sad and a little salty about life. Thankful to be past that stage. Passing it on in hopes that it resonates. Be encouraged, friends. --Laura)

VERSE 1

“You sure go through a lot of storms,” she said.

I shook my head

As though I’d read

Something witty.

“I sure hope your new job works out this time.”

Change ain’t a crime.

I’m still in my prime,

And I don’t need your pity.

When you threw up walls,

And screened my calls,

Little white lied,

Crocodile cried.

I’ve got no patience for your doubt.

I may be down, but I’m not out.

CHORUS 1

‘Cause I’ll arise

I’ll arise!

I know it won’t be long.

Soon you will see how strong I can really be.

When I arise...

I’ll arise!

Like I believed I would,

Like I believed I could.

I believe in me.

No, don’t be fooled by the disguise.

My circumstance is telling lies.

I’ll arise.

VERSE 2

“It sounds to me like you just need some sleep.”

Your talk’s so cheap.

Is that how YOU keep--

Yourself together?

“There’s treatment out there, drugs & doctors too.”

I had no clue!

Well, thanks to you

I finally feel better!

You hemmed and hawed,

And spoke of God,

Told me to pray

My gray away.

How easily I was dismissed.

So, go on: cross me off your list.

CHORUS 2

‘Cause I’ll arise

I’ll arise!

Your reckless abandonment,

It must be Heaven sent.

A new lesson taught.

Yeah, I’ll arise.

I’ll arise!

Funny how seeds are sown.

Funny how stones were thrown

With no second thought.

On bended knees beseeching skies,

In valley lows for mountain highs,

I’ll arise.

BRIDGE

Underestimate me, that’ll be fun.

There’s so many things that I haven’t done.

You think I’m finished. I’ve only just begun!

Underestimate me that’ll be fun.

TAG

From the temporary caches,

To emerging from the ashes.

It shouldn't come as a surprise,

I'll arise.
