Mammals who can fly
echolocating their friends
for an insect feast.
She approached the door,
not knowing about her fate…
would be sealed tonight.
Behind the doors, were
a large basket of apples,
a fruit knife, a lamp.
The smell of candy —
cotton candy — wafted through,
the strangest combo.
Then, suddenly: “crack!”
a blur of orange fur ran
quickly by her side…
…with momentum to
leap head first into a pile
of crisp autumn leaves.
She followed, fell through,
like a movie, arms flailing,
her own rabbit hole.
With a thud, she stopped,
landing softened by sweaters,
confused, dazed and lost.
Darkness envelopes
a pitch-black hug of silence,
lit only by stars.
Mystery candy
shaped like my least fave veggie
loaded with sugar.
