Anxiety Does Not Live Here
Home is where I lock anxiety out
Anxiety is a very cruel mistress
She can take over your entire existence,
A crippling fear and set of emotions
That we, at times have no resistance.
***
Little things that cause us anxiety
For me, one of those is being late,
Running late raises my panic
As it’s something I truly hate.
***
Bigger stresses include being social
As I’m your typical solo introvert,
Large groups of perfect strangers
Invites, of which, I attempt to divert.
***
Small Talk is another of my pet hates
As I don’t seem to be able to excel,
Asking of questions not to be answered
Has me walking on fragile egg shells.
***
As I have gotten steadily older
I’ve found I prefer to be home,
No anxiety allowed through my door
As I spend most of my time alone.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
