Anubis

lamp burned blue

By Carrie HeynPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

"I reckon I could jump it"

where would you land

head and shoulders protruding over emptiness

the flame burned blue

the air was still bad

in the depths of the shaft

it was even worse

I could make out very few details

a pale amorphous glimmer

omnipresent limestone chips

left in the hope that a thief tumble and break his bones

the jackal-headed guide of the dead raised his hand in greeting

"you see the options open to us"

the passageway is concealed

it lies behind Anubis

opening out from the depths of possibilities

we will need ropes

wait for the air to clear

you saw how blue the lamp burned

surreal poetry
