Per my doctor, and google,
Too much inflammation can cause
chronic heart and bowel disease
So I toast to my health every night
With glass of cheap red wine
More importantly,
As part of this anti-inflammatory diet
I turn off the TV
Avoid that brand of lard
Processed in privilege and hyperbole
Touted as a cure,
For those addicted to red meat
Smothered in a gravy of alternate truths
Drinking down their tea
Sweetened with packets of conspiracies
Healthy as I try to be
Those bad options will still be on the menu tomorrow
And tomorrow and tomorrow
For tonight
I’ll gulp down my glass, maybe two
Block out the noise, the rhetoric
Listen to my heart
Make sure it’s strong enough
To fight another day
