Congratulations
Your rapid rise to the top
Is so full of hope
If you don't recognise the mugshot above, the geezer is Andy Burnham, The new President of the United Kingdom, or Prime Minister, if you want the stuffy establishment title. If he looks a little smug, it is because he has had a sudden massive promotion and pay rise.
Am I supportive of his rapid rise to the very very top of his career as a career politician?
Why are you even asking this question? Not being part of the exclusive old boys' club that is the House of Commons (Parliament), my opinion was not sought. In short, I had no say in the matter, any more than any other citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, none of whom were asked their views. Only a dodgy bunch of cloistered left-of-centre (or so some would claim) politicians were involved. I won't bore you with any further details from the Constitution of the United Kingdom, despite being an expert on the subject (if I say so myself). Why? Because it's boring, of course.
Well, What are the new
Prime MinisterPresident's policies?
Boring! Boring! Boring!
I haven't even read them. Why bother? It's not like we have a say in any of them or anything. They also seem to be changing on a daily basis, based on social media ratings, presumably. When I voted in the 2024 General Election, I voted for the party that had a programme I broadly agreed with. I was also keen to draw a line under the shit-show of the previous government. I don't really remember what the incoming government’s programme was, as it was not particularly inspiring. Just like the grey man who led it. But at least I could say it was broadly what I voted for. Now Lord Burnham is in charge, he is making it up as he goes along so... who cares? He'll either sink or swim until... until he sinks. Seems that, these days, the British people have little say in who is in charge and even less say in what they think they are in charge of. With seven Prime Ministers in just 10 years I'm not sure it's even worth remembering their names.
Overheard conversation: “What do you think of the new Prime Minister?” “Just another communist.”
Verbatim quote from an intelligent and well informed commentator
Andy Burnham is seven years younger than Keir (aka Sir Keir) Starmer. Lord President Burnham does have a younger, ever so slightly trendier, look about him compared with Sir Keir. But that might be something to do with hair colour restorative and his carefully cultivated tan. Not to mention the open-necked shirt.
One thing I will say about young Andrew, he knows how to avoid saying the wrong thing. In his acceptance speech he said that he wants to restore hope to the British people. The one thing left in Pandora’s box. If he sticks to that bland message he is sure to go far.
