The secret sauce of poetry
Lies in its deep capacity
To free the mind from rules that bind
Expressions of our human kind
x
For those that read between the lines
A poem speaks volumes full of truth
But those who won't enter the mines
Will never find the diamond proof
x
Encoded thoughts do swirl within
The deepness hides behind the grin
For every man must show his face
Yet what secrets make his blood race
x
To taste his esoteric life
A cost is paid in blood and sweat
His tears are his, as is his strife
Yet out, he must, his sorrow let
x
And so devise he does his maze
Build up, within, he does his blaze
With words and rhyme and time he plays
To hide his truth before the gaze
x
Of those who are not worthy yet
Still seek to take what they can get
In vain does he yet vainly fret
For even if their eyes he met
x
They would not see him standing there
They could not care less how he fares
Though they may stare, they cannot share
The pain that he alone yet bears
x
And so he hides his hurt away
Though come what may, both night and day
Bear witness to silent dismay
He covers up with shades of grey
x
But poetry hates to be caged
It breaks all rules and ruins rhymes
Disdainfully surveys the stage
And yet it waits and bides its time
x
And at the crucial moment speaks
Surmounts even the highest peaks
And looks down on all that was said
Denounces it as living dead
x
True poetry it knows no bounds
It breaks the rules all on a whim
It lives not through these words and sounds
But in the love of her and him
x
Yet even now I am its jailor
If only I could be its sailor
To ride the waves and wind
To spite the skin that sinned
x
To shatter convention
To speak freely
To bare my soul
To risk being hurt
x
To risk being seen
To dare to be known
My safe space is not only mine
I throw its doors wide open
x
I hope to find my kindred kind
Who speak a thousand thousand tongues
Who are not shy to break the rules and stand amongst their shattered ruins
To them I dedicate this hymn:
x
Torrential rain
A wind that both whips and caresses
Solid ground
