An Old (Red) Wagon

An Ode to All Forgotten Toys

Out in the yard

under the shade of a maple tree,

lies an old wagon.

Rusted red and missing

a wheel.

It once saw

street races,

construction jobs,

and even a hole to China.

It was an integral part

in many grand schemes

and transported all manor

of interesting persons.

It once trucked astronauts

to planet Gazool;

ferried great explorers

across mighty rivers;

carried gallant warriors into battle

and brought the wounded to safety.

Trigger happy cowboys

rode after fleeing Indians

upon its back.

And once, it stole away

King Kong

from his home on Skull Island

all the way to New York City.

But nowadays,

it doesn't do much

but sit rusted in the shade

of an old maple tree,

waiting for its next adventure.
