An Ode to the Insurmountable

oh, Dinosaur!

fossils, rumble in your encased earthly graves

i wish for your owners to hear me when i say

the Dinosaur is insurmountable!

their size, their form, the grandness of them

the walking, breathing embodiments of might

the Dinosaur is the way, the world

the distant miracle, the prodigy

what power they wielded on this earth!

how many humans would give it all away

to see one, just once?

to hear their roar, if only for a moment!

it would change the lives of millions

and shake our human hearts to the core

to watch them take a single step onto this earth once again

would turn the tide of the world

and revert it back to a natural, original state, a holy state

oh, Dinosaurs—would the ground crumble under your feet?

would the land cave beneath you

and bow to you to welcome you home?

oh, you great beasts

you colossal, terrifying creatures!

how beautiful you are in your immensity

your vastness, your ethereal might

how could we ever compare to you?

you, the originators of the land

the kings and queens of earth and sky

you dwelled and reigned

long before humanity took its first breath

you, who touched this earth first

who left a mark so substantial

so significant to the meaning of our world

you, who paved the way for us

with your heavy, magnificently imposing steps

thank you to the Dinosaur, we say!

for taking care of our earth

better than we ever could or will

for cementing a prehistoric history of grandeur

thank you for showing us what power is

and what power can be

what life was, and what death can mean!

A timely piece, Angela! Good luck for the challenge! Perhaps sentient AI could continue where the dinosaurs stopped short : )

Interesting and delicious content, keep giving more

  • Awww, this was such a wonderful tribute to them! I loved it!

  • Well-wrought! It would be cool to be able to stay safely suspended in some time bubble to observe them in their natural time and place. Not sure about the Jurassic Park type thing, but maybe I've just seen too many monster movies!

It is incredible to know that we can really create dinosaurs, we cloned a sheep, we can even clone people. The law prohibits it on moral grounds,...but it can be done. But wouldn't we mess that up too.
