An Ode to the Donkey Den
Out of the Backpack
Welcome to the Donkey Den,
Of my many, many homes
Where 24 loving cats
And the six dogs do roam
Where the gun-slinging sheriff
Seems to hold the place down
While the deputy Juan
Runs around...and around.
You hear the ribbiting frogs
When you walk to and fro
Whilst travelling volunteers
They come and they go
But don't be mistaken
With this transient town
To think that the charm
Isn't here to be found
For sun-kissed beach lovers
Sand stretches around
For the kite surfing cowboys
The wind rarely dies down
For the fun lovers, mischiefs
And chaos creators
A feline reward is given
To sly perpetrators
For the homesick travellers
Or those used to big tribes
The shared cooking and dining
Will provide family vibes
For the times that you fancy
A change of four walls
A dance or a movie
Drinks in short or in tall
You can walk the sandy road
To the cool friendly tavern
Where the best pizza is served
By the ship's friendly captain
You will never get stuck here
For conversations or smiles
Music is yours for the choosing
Well...Once in a while
If you happen to be passing
This Ecuadorian eve
Then don't come just to look
Instead, to give and receive
For friendships, you'll form
And fun will be found
Though your feet may barely
Touch the heated ground
