An Ode To Myself

As I Turn Fifty Today

I have weathered many storms,

I fought battles nobody would believe,

I survived abuse and life on the streets,

I lost loved ones along the way,

They said I wouldn't make it,

Through the torture or the pain,

They told me I would never change

my life,

But;

I'm here to tell you that change did

not come easy for me,

I battled tears and bruises that nobody

else could see,

I walked through storms heavier than a

raging sea,

And I still survived through a lifetime

of pain and misery.

Today;

I turned fifty,

And I don't feel a day older,

And I don't even look older!

Never the less,

I am still alive,

Writing my poems,

Writing my stories,

Singing my songs,

Still dancing,

With the endless energy of a teenager.

Time slowed down for me,

During those heartbreaking years,

I've cried all my painful tears.

Now;

I'm stepping into the future,

Creating a brand new life,

Because for me;

Fifty isn't about getting older,

It's about living as I am,

Younger.
