Untethered expectations
Of a day-to-day routine.
Lacking complications
When faced with the unforeseen.
Wagging tails
And mindless barks.
Whatever the unforgiving day entails
Is replaced by a puppy's lark.
Flopping ears shoot pin-straight -
A sign of oncoming adventure.
My once-shallow mood quickly elates
As I look at the furry offender.
The copper tail begins to thud
Bouncing off walls and doors.
Amber puppy-dog eyes disguise great cunning
Authored by the brindle-coated creature on all fours.
The pounding in my chest hastens and swells
As those hazel eyes turn to me in anticipation.
With each tail-thud and deep pant, any residual anxieties quell.
The comfort of her unconditional love - a joyous revelation.

National Senior Citizens Day (April 21)
We are fortunate to live in a time when so many of our elderly are living lives of unexpected health and financial security, but such was not always the case. Throughout history old age was not something an individual expected to reach, and so we lost the wisdom and experience of these individuals at an early age. Senior Citizen Day celebrates the fact that these keepers of wisdom are staying with us longer each year, and in better health.
