Should I depart early from you

without so much as a by your leave,

take no offense, as none was intended.

*

Should I depart early from you,

rest assured it was less about you

and more about my need for a breather.

*

If you feel inclined to find me

while I am ruminating without communication,

there are specific ways which will aid you on your quest.

*

First, follow a southbound flock of birds.

Keep going - farther south - farther still - almost there.

Yes, that will do.

Next, look for a line of trees,

preferably into which some have hearts carved lovingly.

Follow the row to the sea.

Listen for the music of the waves.

I will most likely be floating

face down with a mask and snorkel

or swimming all out to the nearest island.

If not, inquire about for the best margarita in town.

I'm buying.

Should I depart early from you,

consider it an invitation to join me in paradise.
