An Evening in Abingdon

Watching trains from the porch in Abingdon, VA

Here in Abingdon,

After a long day,

Time to melt the stress away,

As the sun fades.

Time for the sweet Southwestern Virginia breeze,

That blows through with ease,

Time to take off a load,

As I sit on the porch,

And look at the railroad,

The clanging is loud,

I hope here comes the crowd,

Soon the lights illuminate the track,

Here comes the CSX,

That's a fact,

The flanges scraping the rails,

While time sails,

Here are a bunch of rail cars,

Hauling coal,

Where it is headed,

I don't know,

Richmond?

Norfolk?

Blacksburg?

Max Meadows?

Who knows,

The skies now darkened,

While we enjoy this view,

Being here in Abingdon,

Is not to me new,

Steep in the mountains,

Of Southwest Virginia,

This part of the state,

It is so great,

As we enjoy an evening in Abingdon.
