An acknowledged account

Weep not, weep not,

Do not shed another tear,

For chains will not dissuade you,

Nor death cause you to fear,

The shadows of night bring uncertainty,

The rays of dawn will not avail you,

Nor the moonlight bring hope,

Gruesome men in authority are your jailers,

To dissuade you from a steadfast course.

Your captors are merciless animals,

Without a thought of remorse,

Though oppression becomes your portion,

And you endure such unyielding pain,

Proud mockers may assault you,

And scoffers come with disdain,

Though you toil through restless winter nights,

While death may surely strike,

Separation may come upon your kin,

Do not falter in the midst of sin!

Play a song, sway through a chord,

Tell of such gruesome years,

Where ungodly men come to destroy you,

And the enemy comes to subdue!

The violin sways with it’s mourning tune,

It’s song would surely tell,

Of the time of your torment, and captivity,

Be strong! Oh Israel!
