An Abecedarian Poem (Attempt)
A Vocal Poetry Challenge
Another night among the swells of the London squalor
Believe me, I would not be out on a night like this unless forced
Careless creatures roam alleys and streets absently cascading in shadows.
Do they not know the dangers that favor these nights?
Everyone should be wary of those lurking within shadows, waiting.
Fear should grip the hearts of even the toughest men in this murky city.
Gallus they are, a young babe walks alone near walls blanketed in shadow.
Heaven look over her this night.
I made my way several steps behind her, determined to be her watcher.
Justice is rarely served to those who strike in the night.
Kindness will surely be my worst folly.
Lazily the woman makes down the street crawling into another ally.
My vision fails as a force knocks my head from beside me.
Now kneeling at the feet and mercy of the woman I had sworn to protect.
Only when I see the knife come forth do I realize my blunder
Perhaps I should have been the one wary of the dark.
Quoting a foreign tongue above my head, dragged past the butcher's doors
Right now my chances of survival are slim.
Such a turn this night has taken, the pain grips my head, unshakable.
The lights are bright above the table where they lay me.
Undoubtedly I will become some mince for the morning's pies.
Villainous practice this is.
Who better for it than me I presume, else it would have been some other.
X-ing their path was sure to be my fate.
Yet I can’t find it within me to fear it.
Zany as I was to believe I would be a protector.

Intense! Not what I was expecting to happen haha, but really well-written, and a scary twist.
Interesting for it read like a very short story.
