Amber eyes afloat

Barbara from my novel The Half Paper Moon

The Great Gatsby cover art

I turn a corner,

I turn a corner

My heart beats wilder

My lungs soak in the stars, dizzy and numb

I

Turn a corner

I can’t catch my breath

What is this feeling?

I cannot escape him

Anymore

tracking my shadow as the sun cuts it and the moon pulls it in

My heart is stripped away as I

Turn

A

Corner

Oh God, yeah, he was watching me, wasn’t he? Why won’t

He just leave me alone?

“Your face looks like the sun,”

His voices burns into my steps

I can’t turn a corner

His amber eyes, afloat.
