My neck hairs are frozen

Heart rate

Settled in anticipation

Every corner

I feel hesitation

I rush

Brow glazed with sweat

I wish I could rest

Spine prickled with cold

I wish to be home

It lingers

Phantom fingers outstretched

Hitching my every breath

Do not stumble

Just look forward

Never mind

That shadow over your shoulder

It is a trick!

A play of the light!

Oh, yes, that would be a delight

But I feel it

That naked stare

My throat

Like a hare in a snare

Do. Not. Look. Back.

Almost home

This is where I run

Like a child in the dark
