Always The Loner

A poem about questioning being a loner.

By Jason MortonPublished 3 months ago • 1 min read

Is this how it's always going to be

Always tired and alone

Never hearing the voice of another

With nary a ring of the phone

Is this how it's always going to be

Always exhausted by it all

Worn out by the dealings of humanity

Merely waiting for the fall

Is this how it's always going to be

Always tired and alone

Grateful for the silence that stretches without end

Just me and my trusty saxophone

Is this how it's always going to be

Always tired, but never resting

Never finding another soul

To share my endless nesting

Is this how it's always going to be

Never beholden to another

Suffering in silence from all the quiet

Secretly desperate for time with a brother

Is this how it's always going to be

Even when the years have gone by

Freedom is such a valuable thing

Yet too much of it guarantees that alone you will die

Is this how it's always going to be

Always able to pick up and roam

Until eventually looking back

While rolling through the country on wheels of chrome
