Always Conditional

A JH Poem

I don’t want the pain to come again.

Nothing lasts forever in this world.

They always tell me to have hope.

They don’t know the truth I learned in that moment of pain.

That love is never unconditional.

That an “I love you” is as only as good as the person who says it.

Unless you are good it will always be a lie.

But no one is as good as they say.

I don’t care for the delusion of constant love.

It’s only constant through blind servitude.

I cannot make the same mistakes.

I won’t be controlled by childish fantasies.

Tradition is a pressure put on by the dead.

I will not be troubled by those who those who take bad advice from ghosts.
