Altitude Anguish

A Sickling Tale of Horror

My son, my dear boy, with Welsh and Spain blood

Went on a ski trip. What could be more fun?

But little did I know, my heart would ache

Altitude sickness was all it would take

He flew from Texas to Colorado's peak

With coworkers in tow, who couldn't be more chic

Feasted on mountain food. What a treat!

But his blood in full sickling mode, can't be beat

That night he blamed dinner with a shrug and a grin

But the next morning, he was rushed to the ER with a spin

Turns out, a splenic infarct was all it would take

An occlusion on his spleen, for my heart to break

Anemia due to sickling cells. Oh, what a laugh

A result of a trait, what a silly gaffe

But through it all, he's smiling with grace

My brave boy, with a smile on his face

So here's to my son, with a heart full of gold

Who proves time and time again, he's bold

With a mother's love, I'll always be there

But next time, choose a trip with low-altitude air!
