All That Was Good and True and Beautiful

Hope must be given the chance to rebuild

boy crying among the ruins — Adobe stock licensed — by Hanna

Fog

Rises

Up

Called by

The morning,

Darkness

Turns slowly

To light.

And the birds

Announce morning,

A new beginning,

The enemy

Has taken to flight.

Fresh possibility

Comes with the sunrise

But sadly not for all

Ukraine war - Adobe license

For their ashes and rubble

Walls smoke-filled and burned out

Remnants of family homes,

Broken, forsaken and crumbling.

Decimation, loss and death

The aftermath of this war’s storm

Rips souls apart and tears at the heart.

All things perish, nothing is left

Cherished playthings and old photographs

Smothered in dust, forever lost

Disfigured, charred pieces on the ground.

But love is forever, stronger than death

And hope must be given the chance to rebuild

All that was good and true and beautiful.

They are still struggling to even reach this day in Ukraine. When they do finally reach it , this will be their reality. Not bright skies and golden fields, but rubble and destruction, the aftermath of an oppressor’s merciless atttack.

We must be ready to help them revive their hope and rebuild, even in the pain of loss and death. We must not forget them. They must renew their “good and true and beautiful” and return this reality to their children.
