All eyes on me
Or so it feels
Lurking in the shadows, cautiously observing
It's that nagging feeling of something unnerving
It's above my logic and beyond my imagination
Past all comprehension, defying any explanation
Its gaze wraps around my senses, tightening its grip around my mind
A lingering sensation of something waiting behind
Never fully present
Yet never fully gone
Resting in silence, pleased with itself
Long after dawn
It's not human, it's abnormal
It's not earthly, nor is it mortal
It's never been born, neither has it died
Its (non?)existence is only implied
Unease is casting illusions I never knew I had
Leaving me restless, my view clouded with fright
Searching for answers in anything in sight
How to face this entity, whose threat is so hard to grasp?
How to catch a shadow, when I am frozen in silent gasp?
How can I be ready for fight or for flight?
Be prepared, with my senses impaired?
This thing…the invisible…
Cannot be watched if it doesn’t want to be seen
Neither can it be tasted, though its bitterness remains
Nor can it be touched, so foreign, it should not be felt
Cannot be heard if it’s more silent than death itself
So that raises the question:
How to turn around when my courage has faded
When uncertainty is my weakness, and every thought is invaded?
Well….
When the worlds are blurred and nothing makes sense
Even in a room flooded with light, yet thick with suspense
When sanity is low and paranoia runs high
The answer is simple:
You don’t ask why and you don't turn around to face it
Eye to eye
About the Creator
Jess S
One day I will be myself again,
and this darkness might come to an end,
and all doubt will cease,
and all strength will rise.
One day my tainted memories will be left behind,
and I will be able to see the world through a clear lens.
