ALIENS AND CRISPS
He came from the sky,
down to the earth,
a creature of power,
of strange unknown birth.
His rocket roared loudly,
fire lit up the night,
the windows all rattled,
and pigeons took flight.
The people stood trembling,
his red eyes aglow,
but why he had landed,
nobody could know.
He sat in a tree,
with a will o the wisp,
then quietly whispered,
Have you heard of a crisp?
I smelt them on Saturn,
they floated through air,
what are those packets,
those little ones there?
The will o the wisp grinned,
then whispered the name,
They’re called Golden Wonder,
that’s why you came.
He shouted with pleasure,
three pigeons fell down,
then raced to the shop,
at the edge of the town.
The shopkeeper slept,
with his nightcap still on,
while crisps left the shelves,
before it was dawn.
Cheese and onion went first,
ready salted went next,
salt and vinegar vanished,
he ate like possessed.
He filled up his rocket,
then gave them a wave,
with enough Golden Wonder,
to fill a small cave.
Off all the crisps flew,
to God only knows,
where aliens ate them,
with six silver toes.
And somewhere above us,
past lightning and thunder,
the alien sat burping,
from too much Golden Wonder.
