I run to the field and open the pod

My eyes widen, "Oh, my God!"

An amphibious form escapes from inside

Wriggling and writhing, attempting to hide

"I won't hurt you," I say to the being

Voice full of wonder as they stop fleeing

I gently touch the skin on their face

"Let me show you around. I know just the place"

I lift them up and place them inside

My tote bag as if I've nothing to hide

Their bumpy, azure skin has just deepened in hue

Smiling, I say with delight, "Let's go to the zoo"

We walk to the reptiles, their skin turns pale green

We stop for some water and return their illustrious sheen

We pass by the monkeys, observe the great apes for awhile

People spot them and gasp as we continue down the aisle

When we get to the giraffes, their form shrinks in size

When they spot the elephants, they quiver with surprise

The penguins are their favorite; they vocalize happily in chirps

We quickly leave the arachnids, their belly a cacophony of slurps

As the sun begins to set, their skin a crimson red

We return to their pod, thoughts dizzying my head

"Today was so much fun," My eyes swell with tears

Touching a button, their ship replies, "I will return in 1,000 years"

The pod closes and begins its ascent

I stare in wonder as it exits the firmament

I walk slowly home, wondering if it was all a dream

I look again to the stars, and see a light beam
