A Wasteland Poem

AFTERMATH

As the ashes come to rest

And the smoke begins to fade

Nothing is left, but a constant shade

And the beginnings of the true test

This environment is hostile, it can’t be tamed

Silhouettes of memories, burned in the walls

Towers once full of corporate ladders are meaningless and vague

The shadow of what once was is littered with Plague

No winners nor losers, we’re just statistics as the Empire falls

We’ve erased it all, this is Year Zero

A time to mourn, a time to rebuild

Landscapes of dust and endless betrayal

A new world is born out of false portrayals

A time of scavenging, it’s kill or be killed

We did it, we snuffed ourselves out

On the horizon, there comes a new day

The bridges have burned, and so has the rain

Who was right? Was it Able or Cain?

The Aftermath of it all looks cloudy and gray
